SYDNEY .- Australian authorities said today the state of high alert for the arrival in the east of the cyclone "Yasi", considered by meteorologists one of the most power in recent decades.
Sources officials reported that Hurricane now runs the Coral Sea to the state of Queensland, where landfall at 22.00 local (12.00 GMT) at some point between the coastal cities and holiday resorts in Port Douglas and Townsville.
Some 300,000 people have fled their homes threatened by heavy rains and winds of 280 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 320 - the "Yasi."
The Queensland weather bureau told the public that the impact "may be the most dangerous in generations," while the leader state, Anna Bligh, said the cyclone would be "the worst disaster in history."
